What is her policies on the bank bailouts? economy? the cuts? the IMF/EU deal?

I'm sure she means well and would be far better than some FF, FG or Labour candidate... but it's all nice words and things anyone can say "Im in favour of culture, and against gender based violence". The only major political figure she references is Yeats who was a fascist Senator!!

A overpriced talking shop for hasbeens, wannabes, mightabeens, couldabeens and GOMbeens!!!
What sort of a democracy has a house where a university votes in people or politicians can vote in their favourite butt boy and lovely girl???They were supposed to repersent the normal people of Ireland, not the elite intellectual class,or whatever.
The sooner that chamber is dissolved ,prefably with a flame thrower and dynamite. The better and less expensive life will be here.

Yes it is a rotten institution but so is the Dáil, so are the Councils and European Parliament and all the other elected bodies in the State. All elections to State bodies descriminate against parties and candidates with less money. All state bodies do not have elected representatives on the average wage. All State bodies do not have re-call of elected representatives. All elections have restricted voting rights. For example in the Dáil election only Irish and UK citizens have a vote and thousands and thousands of residents and workers are excluded from a vote! The Seanad is only the extreme version where university graduates have a vote, in fact Trinity get same representation as NUI, and any graduate from UL or DCU have no vote!! Even among graduates it's elitist. Yes the Seanad should be abolished. But it exists now and those who do have a vote should vote on same basis as they cast their votes in Dáil. Why not use the opportunity to put forward demands around the issues that matter such as IMF, cuts, the banks, and so forth. Rosaleen McDonagh does not say anything about the key issues facing the country and people on the left should not vote for her.
